I like the look of this WOD it looks tough but fun.Lets hope we get more snow & we can pelt each other & the coaches with snow balls.
i hope it snows too but if it snows hard illg et snowed in and not able to get out but i will be able to go boarding
Yay it’s strictly handbag on Saturday. I might be dancing so. If I can move after all those pull ups tonight. Is there a 7pm class?
Interesting article today. Very hard to get rid of Christmas and New Year extra pounds if you already trying to loose wait.
My little thing is to always make a conscious decision to eat ‘crap’, so I don’t find myself abstractively taking sweets from the sweet tin and suddenly I’ve eaten about 20. I pick my favourites, make a cup of coffee and enjoy. Much more satisfying
The other thing that was always in my head, if I am working, I go training. So I might take summer holidays and Christmast off from training, but the minute I am back in work, I start back training. Might sound silly, but lots of people take Christmas off and it can be a good way of re-charging their batteries, but then instead of getting back in straight away after New Year, they wait another extra week and then go. I think it just makes it harder.
Anyways, I’ll stop, I’m rambling now
Eve, there’s a 7pm class tonight.
Sue, good point about deciding how much crap you’re gonna eat.
A good thing I learnt, actually from a Weight Watchers coach, is that a lot of people eat out of boredom. They’re sitting around, doing nothing so they just start to eat. This is one of the ways the pounds pile on over Christmas. So watch out for it.
Had fun on the way in this morning on the roads. I was behind a van that kept on sliding on the ice. Didn’t think much of it well because I was sliding a touch here and there as well. The guy then spins out going around a roundabout and does a full 360 and there he is talking on his mobile . Muppet.
Anybody thinking of having their delph looked at do it now.Why do we pay PRSI again?

Liverpool vs Urinary tract infection
As kevin Keegan would say ‘I luv it!’
Im following crossfit irelands programming for the last few days and will continue to do so until the invitational in feb. Enjoying it so far, some nice workouts.
Im doing the chief later on, whats a respectable number of rounds in 3 mins for that? Bear in mind the 60kg power cleans are almost body weight for me.
Enjoy tomorrow morning people, I will still be comatose from nights. Might be down for the Oly lifting class if it’s on, but technically tomorrow is a BJJ day so I dunno.
On the whole eating over Xmas thing- I write off Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day (yes, it’s called Boxing Day people). Two or three deserts a day are manditory. Then I figure the gluttony involved in that will actually catapult me back into the Zone.
When I read Colm’s thing about people eating out of boredom it kind of reminded me of something I noticed when I was in the cinema yesterday seeing James Camerson’s Avatar (review to follow). There were couple of large gentlemen seated near me, and I noticed that their hands literally never stopped moving from popcorn, sweets and large coke to their mouths. It was like an automatic thing, there was no conscious element to it, the hands just kept carrying food to the mouth like a conveyor belt. And because they had huge sizes of everything it seemed to go on for ever. Seems like a recipe for disaster whenever you have that kind of disconnect between eating and appetite.
As far as Avatar goes-
The Good : James Cameron’s first movie in 12 years and it doesn’t suck hugely, it’s not a science fiction classic but it could have been much worse, it’s a notch above some other big blockbusters I’ve seen this year. The CGI and live action blend isn’t perfect but it inches us closer to doing it totally successfully. From an SFX point of view you want to go and see it on the biggest, baddest screen you can with your 3D glasses and try and enjoy it on that level. Eventually it seemed to start to hurt my eyes but still pretty cool. For me the stars of the movie were the jungle setting and the flora and fauna, very nicely thought out and designed.
The bad: It did turn out to be, as Pixie warned, “Fern Gulley with machine guns” or whatever. Cameron reall drives home this preachy eco-message. Humans and progress are bad, m’kay? The good guys are the Nav’i, a sort of composite of every hokey stereotype of an indigenous people you’ve ever seen in Hollywood. They’re childlike and in touch with the flow of the planet’s energy and whatnot. They don’t want to learn English, wear jeans and drink lite beer (that’s when you know it’s the movies and not the real world).
‘Dances with Aliens’, as someone else summed it up. Worth a look. I suspect ‘Sherlock Holmes’ is going to be more dissapointing. I kind of object to them making an action franchise out of it.
Interesting read on Avatar Ruairi it is one of the movies i thought would be worth going to the cinema to see this Christmas if any i think ill still see it .
What cinema would you reckon to go see it in dundrum or liffey valley
Cheers for the review Ruairi, might check out Avatar at some stage but I’m not hugely pushed. I would recommend everyone check out Where The Wild Things Are, tis great But far more importantly go and watch the new trailer for Iron Man 2, it looks fantastic!!
http://www.apple.com/trailers/paramount/ironman/
Sorry, that being apple.com it is of course WFS!
Hmmm, I think I would be more excited if that trailer had just been the 3 second clip of Iron Man and War Machine shooting at things. That other crap has put me off a little.
I’d mainly agree with Ruairi, more Titanic than Alien alright.
Sherlock Holmes should be good. I mean, when has Robert Downey Jr ever messed anything up? Apart from his life?
Ger,
I left the notepad in CrossFit with the scores from the last few days but Jimminy set the record with 6+ rounds on his first round, falling to 4+ on his last round.
Appartently Sherlock Holmes was some black belt in something or other.
If you want a big feck off screen, Cineworld in parnell street uses the old Imax theatre for some of the 3d films and it’s cool. I saw ‘UP’ there (highly recommend) and it was brill. HUGE screen. I think Screen 1 in the Savoy is one of the biggest in the country.
Love the cinema, loadsa films to see over Christmas. Watched ‘Nightmare before Christmas’ last night. Classic !
Voting Lines for the XFIT FACTOR are now closed!! Thanks for Voting and we’ll announce the (Surprising Results) tomorrow morning!!
Ah, I’ll be a bit nerdy here-
When Arthur Conan Doyle was writing Sherlock Holmes japanese jiu jitsu was just being introduced to Britain. An engineer called Barton-Wright who had trained in judo, jiu jitsu, wrestling and Savate, a type of french boxing, created his own hybrid martial art called ‘Bartitsu’. It also included particularly Edwardian stuff like fighting with umbrellas and canes.
Sherlock Holmes was famously equipped with a bit of knowledge in Bartitsu, and it allowed him to out-wrestle Moriarty at their showdown at Reichenbach Falls, Switzerland. The only thing Conan Doyle got wrong was the spelling unfortunately… he refers to it as ‘baritsu’ rather than Bartitsu.

Guy Ritchie, who directed Sherlock Holmes, is actually a pretty good Brazillian Jiu Jitsu player, I think he’s a purple belt. Robert Downey Junior has said in interviews he is a Wing Chun Kung Fu guy and that he brought some of that to the fight scenes in the movie. I wonder if he chain-punched that Korean family in whose house he famously woke up in naked with no idea how he got there?
