Serious case of leg related DOMS today.
Tony – I see you are trying to move away from getting the bulk of your carbs from fuit and move to veg, what type of veg are you planning to eat instead? Reading Robb Wolf’s and other blogs they seems to think that this is the way to go, less fruit more veg. I personally have toyed with the idea of eating a pepper instead of an apple while in work or a block of carrots as well. Maybe it is my lack of imagination regarding food but chowing down on some veg (cold broccoli for instance) instead of an apple isn’t that appealing. Anyone else eat more veg than fruit?
Anyone have an pointers?
I don’t know if it’s paleo approved but I find sugar snap peas nice and tasty raw, also M&S sell fresh peas which are lovely raw. I find roasted veg is also good either hot or cold and you can vary what you roast for a bit of a change. I love roasted beetroot but it’s really hard to find.
Hey Pat,
I was eating a lot of apples(maybe 4 or so a day) and feck all veg untill dinner and sometimes then only salad. For the last couple of days I’ve substituted raw carrots for the apples at breakfast and I’ve had half apples/half carrots at lunch with broccoli at dinner. I like Eve’s idea of roasted veg so might give it a whirl. The only concern I’ve got from the change is that my energy levels might drop and i might tank during the WODs. I’ll just have to give it a week as see what happens.
I’ve tried eating other raw veg at work but i find eating raw Broccoli just plain hard work. The raw onion at work didn’t go down too well either with numerous complaints from HR. It did however along with my beard manage to keep the women folk from hanging around batting their eyelids at me now that Crossfit has made me soooo attractive. You want to be attractive but not too attractive (LOL)
Amro,
No worries I’ll squirrel a couple of bottles away for you, should have them later this week.
Quiet on comments today.
Firefox was acting the maggot tonight so no can post scores. Will throw them up tomorrow.
You could try Carrots or Celery sticks with some home made Hummus. Pretty damn tasty!!

Lads and lassies
as a bit of a food nut I think that often the problem a lot of us face is falling into the same repetitive patterns of eating the same stuff all the time….BORING!
I am just getting my head around the whole Zone idea and to be honest as someone who REALLY likes food I find it a bit of a pain. I have read a few of the zone recipe books and thing they are awful. Also messing around with various online/iphone apps for counting blocks etc. but in the interest of keeping it simple – My suggestion is we should start a recipe index.
It would be an idea to offer Paleo suggestions, primal – whatever your poison.
Most of us would stick to staples – chicken, various fish, steak, Lamb – but what do you do to spice up something if you have had it for the 10th time that week.
I have some recipes but have no idea how they would relate to a zonish diet, The only thing I did was to eat greens instead of spuds but for example tonight’s dinner was:
Pork Chops with Spinach & Mushrooms in Mustard Sauce:
Ingredients:
2 x pork chops (support your local butcher too!)
2 large handfuls of spinach – washed and dried (use baby spinach or remove tough center stalks from larger spinach)
5 mushrooms – quatered
1 large clove garlic – pressed in skin (under the heel of the hand works!)
1/2 large Gherkin – Diced
1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
2 teaspoons Sour Cream
Teaspoon Butter
Teaspoon Olive oil
1/2 glass white wine
Method:
-Heat Pan (medium High) and add Olive oil and Butter. Add Garlic Clov, moving around the pan to let the oil absorb some of the flavour.
-Add Chops and cook for 5 mins each side, seasoning once on each side with salt and pepper.
-When Chops are sufficiently browned on each side and any juices run clear transfer to warmed plate.
-With only the Garlic left in the pan, turn up the heat slightly and throw in the 1/2 glass of white wine. This should bubble up and using a utensil, scrape at bottom of pan to loosen any caramelised bits form the pan. reduce for further 1 min
- add mushrooms and coat in the sauce and cook for 1min
- add chopped Gherkins cook 1 min
- Add spinach and wilt in the pan stirring around.1 min
- Add mustard and Sour cream – this should now look like good old creamed spinach with a bit of a kick ….oh and with mushrooms added.
- At this stage you can decide to fish out the Garlic as it should have passed a lot of its flavour through…personally I just mash it in with a fork and mix it through…mmm Garlic!
- check seasoning.
serve on a warmed plate with the chops on top.
I had that with a Glass of red wine watching Liverpool make a mess of it in Europe – all in all quite a pleasant evening.
