  1. Hahahah YUSSSSS. You guys are in for hell tomorrow.

And Colm, you’re such a wuss with your fear of non-round numbers!!

  2. Hanley,

I could have always rounded up to 85Kg as well!

So guys, I’m thinking December 19th for Christmas drinks. We could head out after doing a charity workout and it could mark the end of Project Hugening.

Speaking of Projects, I think it’s time people recommitted to Paleo and/or Zone in November.

  3. I agree with Colm on the Paleo/Zone recommitment! I’m up to day 56 so if anyone wants to join me for my last 30 days they’re more than welcome!

Interested to hear how Project Hugening is going as well, how’s everyone finding it so far?

  4. Count me in for November Zone/Paleo Project anyway! Ill have before and after pics too just for the craic and because I didn’t for the previous challenge!

    Today’s WOD looks…. interesting..

  5. Project Hugening is the business! Just over a week in and I’m about 3.5 to 4kg heavier. All the eating is hard work but it’s worth it I’m already feeling bigger and stronger. I thought 72kg to 80kg would be too much to reach before christmas but it’s looking good at the moment.

  6. Good stuff Eamonn! Keep it up dude. Apart from 4 litres of milk a day what are you eating that you normally wouldn’t be eating?

  7. Yeah what exactly is involved in Project Hugening? is it just eating as much as you can or are there guidelines/restrictions as with Paleo/Zone???

  8. the rule is to get hugh or build weight /muscle , you can’t just put on a nice beer belly . Some of us are not allowed to enter it though ask Colm or Will

  9. I might be on for trying the zone strictly for november. Depends how binge drinking would fit in though can I have a night off for drinking?

  10. In Project Hugening there are no rules! or what Dale said. You get weighed and get a calpier reading then just before christmas you get weighed again and another calpier reading. Whoever put’s on the most weight taking calipier reading into account win’s. Stephen has an early lead and is up something like 6kg in two weeks.

I’m eating mostly clean really, very little refined carbs but I’m not turning down the odd double quarter pounder either. I wasn’t eating enough meat before either so I’ve bumped that well up as well. I’m not sure exactly but something like 750′ish grams of meat a day plus the milk. Plenty of nuts as well. So far it’s working for me.

  11. Eve,

If you could keep your diet in check I’d overlook a few beers. It’s hard enough to be a reformed eater in Ireland without the added pressure you’d get if you weren’t drinking either.

So that’s Pat and Eve on board. Surely you all could benefit from making a few changes to the old diet?

  12. Saturday, 19th sounds good for Xmas drinks. I suppose Christmas + Charity = Fight Gone Bad ;-)

  13. Eamon, could you give a sample of an average days eating for you please? I’ve put on 5 kg since july eating plenty and drinking lots of milk but i have stalled recently. Plenty of double quarter pounders sounds good!

Have you looked at the site ’70′s big’? Its interesting but the food they recommend isnt too healthy.

  14. Be interesting to see what Stephen’s chowing down on too.

Sue, FGB is a good community one, although it does suck something awful. Have you any other suggestions?

  15. How much milk are you drinking Ger?

    Here’s a sample day

    Breakfest:
    2xChicken breast or 6 eggs
    Piece of fruit

    Lunch:
Salad that weighs about 400g (most weight coming from meat/eggs)

    Dinner:
    About 300g steak
    Lots of veg

I snack on fruit, nuts during the day and get in about average 3.5 litres of milk.

It actually doesnt seem much when I write it out like that, it’s the milk doing most of the work. If you aren’t taking in a gallon of milk that’s what I’d try first.

If your eating a ton of meat, dairy & nuts and plateaued I guess it’s time to get dirty. Plenty of double quarter pounders and guzzling olive oil I guess. I haven’t had to go there yet so I’m not sure how diabolical people get with it.

70′s big is a great website. The pictures of what some of them are eating that were up the other day were good movitation for me to eat more. Some of those guy’s are crazy.

  16. Count me in for Zone November or even Zovember has a catchy ring to it!

Eamonn my god that’s a lot of food! but keep it up!!

  17. Hanely would be a good person to weigh in on this one being a powerlifter (pun intended). He’s gone up and down huge amounts of weight.

  18. I will get back on board for project paleo.september went well for me but october saw me slip back to project fat git.but feel ready for another try now.

  19. Eamonn fair play chief your doing well wolfing down all that food.Be good to see you boys get some good results.Who else is doing this at the minute you Tom & Stephen? Have you felt sick at all from eating so much or is your body adapting to eating large quantities at regular intervals?

  20. As Eamonn said, my weight’s been all over the place in the past year. It was as high as topping out just over 110kg with a 41 inch waist and 21mm calliper reading at my suprailliac skinfold.

It’s now down to 96.5/97kg with a 35inch waist and 11mm calliper reading at my suprailliac skinfold.

    My “cutting” diet Monday – Friday has been;

    Breakfast:
    1 bowl of special k
    1 chicken fillet
    2 multi vit tabs
    3 cod liver oil caps

    11am:
    1.5-2 scoops of whey
1-2 dessert spoons of peanut butter (PB)

    1.15pm:
    (initially)
    a sandwich/wrap of some sort

    (currently)
    200g of chicken
    1-2 dessert spoons of PB

    4.30-5pm:
    2 scoops of whey
    1 scoop of PB

    6pm:
    red meat
tiny bit of potato (2-3 fork fulls)
    veg of some sort

    10pm:
    2 scoops of whey
    1 scoop vitargo
    15g glutamine

    11.30pm:
    250ml milk
    1 scoop of whey

That’s about 2,700kcals per day. The weekends are a bit hit and miss, but I don’t really mind. Meal frequency does down a bit, but total kcals stay flat.

When I was gaining, it was basically see-food. Chocolate, sweets etc, ya know the story. It wasn’t pretty – it was actually very ugly. I’ll never let myself get that fat again, but goddamn I got really strong REALLY quickly.

I’ve managed to hold onto all of my strength, and even surpass old PR’s in that time period. I’ve squatted more raw @ 100kg than 110kg, benched more equipped @ 100kg than 110kg and pulled more than I ever have at any weight in the last couple of weeks at about 97kg (245kg x2).

If anyone’s any Q’s on it all, fire away!

  21. And just to add, my weight was at it’s highest in April/May of 2009 and is now at the lowest its been since 2007!!!

  22. Just Myself, Tom, Stephen & Robbie I think? Dale was rejected for being 90kg already.

It can be a god awful chore at times. I got home from CF about 9:30 last night after drinking 1.5 litres of milk post training. I wasn’t in the slightest bit hungary but I hadn’t eaten any dinner yet and well you’ve got to eat your dinner if you want to get huge! It wasn’t a pleasant experience. I then wake up this morning still full but I haven’t had any breakfest yet! you can’t get huge if you don’t eat breakfest! and the cycle continues. I’m stuffed nearly round the clock.

I’m glad I only decided to do this for 8 weeks. I couldn’t hack it on a long term basis. It being only 8 weeks though means I’m alot more motivated compared to when I was attempting the same thing last year doing the starting strength program over 6 months.

  23. On zone/paleo would like to give it a go but the idea of constantly measuring seems annoying & might be easy to loose interest? Paleo might seem easier but doesnt it outlaw all dairy? Cream, milk & cheese would be a killer to knock on the head. Whats best in terms of trying to drop body fat % opinions please? I suppose I’m somewhere in between both diets at the minute having removed all starchy carbs.

  24. For me its something like:

7.00 litre milk on way to work
9.30 4 or 5 blocks chicken, piece of fruit, cashews or almonds
    10.00 litre milk
12.30 chicken breast, rice, chips, cashews or almonds, 0.5 litre milk
3.00 4 or 5 blocks chicken, some fruit, cashews or almonds
    4.00 0.5 litre milk
    6.00 litre milk
6.45 big mac, 6 nuggets, small fries.
9.00 steak, veg, cashews or almonds.

Probably snack on almonds pr cashews through the day and maybe chocolate or biscuits or whatever at some stage. Not too worried about being healthy at the moment. This is hard work! feel full starting most meals!

  25. Good work Eamonn. They are great gains for a week.Keep it up.
Im up about 3.5kg in the same time as Stephen is Hugening, so i am way behind. Probably because im only averaging about 2 litres of milk today. Have found it difficult to drink more than that, but anything worth doing usually aint easy, so need to pull my socks up on this!

  26. That’s some going on the eating Stephen. Someones gunning for gold!

3.5kg is good going too Robbie. I wouldn’t worry about drinking too much milk. If you’re training hard it’ll get put to good use. Any excess can be shed with a clean diet sans milk from Janurary.

  27. Thanks Eamon, im drinking 2 litres a day. Looks like i need to get more in. It’s hard bloody work trying to put on weight.

Breakfast: 4 eggs porridge and almonds
    1 pint of milk
Snack: 2 deli turkey slices 1 apple and almonds
    1 pint of milk
Lunch: 4 Turkey slices 2 apples and almonds again
    1 pint of milk
Dinner: Chicken/Steak/fish and vegetables or pasta
    1 pint of milk
Evening: Cottage cheese 1/2 tub, strawberries or grapes and almonds.

I dont think i caould eat any more but i’ll try increasing milk intake to 3.5L.

  28. Colm, well you know me I am a HUGE fan of ‘That’s a Rediculous Weight’ :-)

I am feeling very hungry reading all the menus above ;-)

  29. So I’m just back from the doctor and apparently I’ve the flu so I’m off work (and crossfit) for the next couple of days. Not going to give up on the Paleo/Zone though, discussed it with the doctor and she recommended lots of lemon and honey and lemsip, I countered with how bout I eat more fat and more fruit and veg, she seemed happy enough with that, mostly because of the look on my face saying, don’t fuck with me lady it’s taken all my energy to get down to the doctor, arguments are not a good plan!

Anyway the reason for this random post is that, hey if I can go Zone/Paleo while having the flu, and being stuck in bed well dammit people you can do 30 days! I swear you will notice a difference and feel a whole lot better for it (flu not counted!! :) )

  30. James – 5Kg WPU (5); 7:30 50Kg
    Robbie – 115Kg DL (5); 8:41 50Kg
    Dan – 40Kg OHS (5); 9:52 50Kg
    Derrick – Strict Pull Ups; 18:28 (60Kg)
    Tony – 100Kg DL (5); 15:08 (70Kg)
    Stephen – Generalised Messing About
    Garvan – 60Kg Cleans (3); 13:58 (70Kg)
    Damien – 60Kg PC (3); 15:45 (70Kg)
    Cian – 9:53 (50Kg)
    Rob – 10:11 (50Kg)
    Sue – 10:46 (35Kg)
    Lisa – 11:22 (25Kg)
    Pat – 15:16 as rx’d

    Essentials
    5 x 10 KB Swings/10 Sit Ups
    Ciaran – 3:23
    James – 3:06
    Kieran – 3:08
    Brian – 2:58
    Cathal – 3:40
    Paddy – 3:26
    Dara – 3:34

  31. Fair play to Pat for doing it as RX’d. It’s such a ridiculously hard workout. Literally feels like your shoulders just shut down after the first round.

  32. Paddy, that’s starting to sound awfully close to ‘I want to see results just not change anything’ mentally.

Want to see changes? You need to make them. Honestly, what’s the harm in cutting out dairy for two to four weeks. It’s feck all time really.

    What’s your diet now?

  33. Major thanks to Colm, Rob and Will tonight for getting me through the WOD. Don’t think I could have finished it out without ye! Major props gentlemen!
