  1. Dont think I will be doing this one. When I fell last night on the snatches I managed to volley the bar with my right foot. When I got to work small limp, now big limp.Hopefully icing will help.Sore as hell at the moment.

  2. Sorry to hear that dude, icing the shite out of it is what works in my experience!

In other news, from looking at that photo I vote that the gym’s next equipment purchase be a sun bed. Or there should be a collection in the gym to get me a sun bed. Or some fake tan. Or some trousers.

  3. R – Rest
I – Ice (Ice Massage is good)
    C – Compression
    E – Elevation

    Thanks the key

  4. In other news we’re fairly confident MMA Rob has a fractured cheek bone. He’s getting a CT scan this morning and we’ll know then.

  5. Hopefully Rob will be ok.Foot feeling alot better thanks ice and vitamin I.
Bobby theres nothing wrong with the “of course I’m a paddy look at the colour of me!” look.

  6. haha the old blue Colour look of the irish bobby you do us proud . On a different note shoes ordered this morning cheers Colm for letting me try you shoes out last night .

  7. Thats nasty Colm fingers crossed he will be ok & it heals quickly. The boys must be going real hard at the standup these days.

  8. Watched that video last night, very interesting stuff I must admit, must check into that a bit more and get a better understanding of it.

  9. Anyone use coffee as a pre workout energy boost? Or just to get the sould destroying mornings at work?

  10. Can’t say I have tried it but imagine it would also have a dehydrating effect pre-workout which would cancel any boost? God coffee is good though can’t function in the morning without it! I know someone will say now how bad it is.

  11. Double D – Glad to hear you are on the mend.

    Poor aul MMA Rob.

    Just back from a WOD:

    1.5km run (to Herbert Park)
    50 Double Unders
    40 Burpees
    30 Air squats
    1.5km run (to office)

    26:09mins

I’d say I might have been quicker if I was doing it with someone else.

    Legs mighty shaky ;-)

  12. so what length of time should one wait between sets when doing strength stuff.

Is 5 mins too long? Or does it depend on what number of reps and sets your doing. Or should you just hang around til you feel good to go again, no matter how long or short?

  13. Heavy shit around 3-5 minutes I’d say, longer if you’re a serious powerlifting athlete who’s close to his potential.

Olympic Lifting should be closer together, as you’ve to complete your lifts closer together in competition, imho.

  14. People are always harping on about the rest periods between sets, I usually just take the time I need to feel ready to go again. With 1RM on technique dependent stuff (e.g. Snatches) this can be as low as a minute. When there’s a large systematic load in place, as in a deadlift or a back squat then it can take me over 5 mins before I feel right again. Go with whatever allows you to lift the biggest weight, I’ve tried to follow that doctrine for the last while and it seems to work out ok.

  15. thanks guys. I tend to rest about 5mins myself. Ive started rugby coaching and as part of that am in the gym with the lads. They’re only starting out and was asked this today so im glad to see i got it right!

the trick is going to be slowly replacing pretty much everything they’re doing now with crossfit. A big ask, not least cos im probably going to have to quit due to college.
