Only a few short days to go until the Invitational! Some things of note:
- Today, everyone who has entered will receive a waiver form. Please make sure you fill this out and bring it along with you on the day.
- On Thursday at 9am the workouts and movement standards will be revealed on the Invitational Page, along with the heat list for workout one.
- Thursday at 7pm there’ll be a meeting for everyone who wants to help with rep counting and judging. This should only take an hour of your time.

thanks for the link ed.
So I went for a medical today as part of work and in it they did a lung capacity test, last time I had one of these was about 4 years ago (i.e. I was 24) and I had the lung capacity of a 50 year old (this when I was cracking through 30 smokes a day), so after 9 months of quitting smoking (and the ol crossfit!) my result to today was 32 years old, quite a significant drop I think! So I’d imagine in another year without cigarettes it’ll be way down again. Looking forward to seeing my blood test results as well see if my cholesterol is off the charts from all this artery clogging fat I’m consuming everyday!
Rx’d weight on the squat snatches ?
Is entry to the invitational still open?
Ruairi,
Meant to say pick a weight that completes this workout in under 5 minutes, so for you I’d say 45Kg
Pat,
Yep we’re still open for registration.
Nice going Pixie. Out of interest how do they test lung capacity?
I had one of those medicals a couple of months back Pixie with work as well before I started crossfit. Was suprised when my cholestrol level came back as 5.0. They said this was fine but it should be under 5. My diet would be fairly clean so thought it would be lower than this. My mother also had one done a few months ago.My mam is overweight & eats alot of carbs & is 70 years old. Her cholestrol level came back as 3.5.
Ah awesome day to come back to crossfit training , weighted pullups my favourite
Nice work Pixie, did they do it with one of those pipes you have to blow into as hard as you can?
“In-your-endo” before someone starts
Registered for the invitational anyway. Looking forward to the challenge. Just read about the last one. Look like fun. Ha!
I’m mulling over at the moment whether I’ll take 3 full days off before the invitational or or just the two. What are the rest of you planning? Tony will no doubt be training up to at least Thursday.
Full day of training Wednesday peanuts, Sub wrestling on thurs and 3×5 in the bench on Friday.
I suggest you perform
AMRAP in 5 Days
Eat steaks
That would be a good one for me
I’ve booked Captain America’s for Sat at 9 if anyone’s interested?
Unfortunately I have to go into work for a 12 hour shift after the invitational so no Captain Americas for me.
Eamonn – yep as Tom said it was blow into one of those tubes as hard as you can, fairly standard I’d imagine.
Captain’s sounds good to me Colm.
Eamonn, those tubes are known as spirometers. They’re one of the most commonly used diagnostic tools for pulmonary function tests (testing your lungs). Basically a snazzy flowmeter that uses some snazzier maths to work out the capacity of your lungs. Well not quite, it works out the forced vital capacity of your lungs, which is the amount of air you can actually breathe out of your lungs. There’ll always be some dead space where sneaky air hides when it doesn’t want to come out.
This stops your lungs from collapsing when you breathe out all the way, useful at times.
Pixie, how did your FEV1 compare with last time or do you remember? I’d be interested to see how that changed with regard to your crossfitting.
