There’s well over a thousand CrossFit affiliates around the world now, and some are pretty weird and wonderful.

  • CrossFit NYC is a fave of mine, and I regularly take links from them. Check out their shoe Turkish Get Up here.
  • CrossFit LA would have to be considered the best business model of all affiliates. In fact, they now run seminars and put their biz system on CD/DVD for others to follow suit.
  • CrossFit One World seems a very fun place from the videos featuring Freddy C. They also have Jolie Gentry there as well, so obviously some hardcore training gets done.
  • CrossFit Greyskull has possibly one of the coolest names around. Is there site intimidating or welcoming to you?

Have you any other CF affiliates that you keep an eye on?

  1. I don’t look at any of those affiliates actually. Main reason being is that I find a lot of affiliate websites have been designed by blind children who don’t know what a computer is.

Personally I look at CFNI and the main site. Both of them have a nice, easy to understand front page and are easy to navigate. Honestly I think ours and CFNI are among the best affiliate sites around in this respect. The only thing that bugs me is that I can’t access Vimeo in work (yet we have YouTube??) so I get the odd blank space on some days.

  2. Is there still a separate gymnastics class at 7 or is it just the handstand walks?

  3. Hmm I do ramble around alot of crossfit related material on the net but I don’t really check out affilates sites either. Just when I see a link to an affiliate page most often from here will I have a look. I have come across CrossFit One World a bit and yep it does indeed look like a fun place. Agree with Bobby also alot of the sites have a pretty dire design which puts you off.

There was an interesting article on San Francisco CrossFit in the journal just the other day. They make or find alot of their equipment. Might be a few idea’s in there for yourselves and Tony to cook up.

  4. Eamonn,

Will will be taking the gymnastics, I’ll be around if anyone wants to do the WoD.

  5. Walking lunges have taken their toll on me, I won’t be down tonight.

On average how long between WoD are repeated? Just wondering when I’ll get to climb that rope again :P

  6. Speaking of making up your own equipment anyone know where is good to buy a wall mounted pull up bar or anyone ever assemble their own one?Thinking of maybe putting one up at the side of the house.

  7. Paddy, I made my own MacGuyver style one from a length of sched 40 steel pipe from B&Q (about a tenner) and 3 mounting brackets (about 1.50 each). I used 100mm screws and put into the ceiling beam that runs along my bedroom. It’s actually strong enough to kip on but I wouldn’t do that exclusively on them as I can just imagine it ripping out mid swing!

There’s plenty of cheap doorway ones available to buy that are probably just as good. I’m a fan of making my own stuff and doing DIY so I wanted to make my own.

  8. The midday class was quiet, Colm just had Dan and I… we figured yesterday’s walking lunges were to blame alright.

  9. I was down earlier Ruairi. I wasn’t aware that the 1oclock class had been dropped however :/ . The lads seemed to be arsing about though so I got to fit in Josh Evercat.

  10. Cheers Bobby, have one of the doorwar chin up bars alright but its useless for pull-ups due to the doors in my house not being wide enough.

  11. Eamonn,

The arsing about, as you describe it, was actually just leaving. But I took pity on you, and figured you’d only be 15 minutes or so. As a result, I haven’t gotten home yet with all the running arounds and errands I had to do. Who knows what I’ve missed on Facebook.

  12. In that case I apolgise profusely. Facebook and well the Internet as a whole is serious business.

  13. Ruairi – 4:09 (faceplant push ups)
    Dan – 5:35 (50Kg/faceplant)
Peanuts – 7:43 (60Kg/hardcore on the wood faceplants)

    Essentials
    3 x 10 OHS,200m run
    Jeff – 6:26
    John – 7:07

    Deadlifting Crew
    Eoin – 120 x 3 ; 61-54-51
    Marianne – 50 x 3 52-53-53
    Louise – 70 x 3 63-54-64

Metcon was 3 x 1min row, 1min sit ups, 1min med ball cleans

  14. Nice Tony. I started calling it bookface after seeing that ep of the IT Crowd. The last season of IT Crowd was really good actually.

  15. Hey Eamonn, I’m in the market for a pair of lifting shoes and was edging towards the black rogues. How do you find them?
has anyone else tried more than just the pair they use now? I see adidas around the gym as well but i like the look of the rogues
    any thoughts?

  16. Hi Tony, I’m really glad I got them. Worth every penny. They really do make a difference and especially with the olympic lifts where they allow you to get down to a much lower bottom position. I actually get a little annoyed if I’m doing a running metcon now that features heavy weights and I can’t wear them. I got them after reading around and deemed that these seem to be among if not the most recommended shoes to get. One of the reasons is that the heel isn’t as high as most other shoes so they are decent for deadlifting in as well.

Generally you want a more flatter shoe for deadlifting. Some say completely flat and some like Rippetoe say a little heel is good (I know why now after seeing Dave Tates DL method vs Rip’s DL method and why each have different DL methods but I’ll get into that somewhere else)

I’ll try dig up a few links over the weekend and I’ll post them on your log. Only pair I’ve used so can’t compare to anything else.

  17. Just incase you are going to order them right away. Take this into account.

“We suggest ordering down 1/2 size from you American men’s size shoe”

  18. ***10:38*** as rx’d (tarmac faceplant pushups)

I did sandbag a bit on the power cleans, I really needed the rest period to actually get the weight up after the 3round.

Also really needed competition and probably a lot of form help with that workout. I was happy-ish with my time until i came on the site and saw what the three lads did.

Another WOD going in the book as one to repeat.

  19. ref Ess above…fair to say I was carrying less then Jeff for the 3 x 10 OHS,200m run….Looking forward to Tuesday!
