LangerFest Notice:
(Hopefully the last one for a while!)
House booked in Kinsale Holiday Village for weekend of 14th-16th August 2009.
Final cost is €36 per person. Deposit has already come off my credit card so please give €20 (or full amount if you want rid of it now) to Colm (or myself if you see me) to put in the little brown envelope.
Thanks
Colm/Will, can you post or email me the names of the people coming for Langerfest please?
I’m thinking of making it a team event, team Hi-B made up of 5 or 6 people and splitting your crew into 2 teams.
You can choose your teams, make them of even ability.
Lowest total team time for all events added up wins the Title of ‘Biggest Langer in Cork 2009′
This title guarantees you to score frequently with the local farmers daughters. Or sons if you’d prefer.
Couldn’t get into the article on Protein, but read the one ‘Top 10 Nutritional Mistakes’. Very good. Sent it of to a few people
As I do tend to preach some of these rules, particularly the food pyramid and the STOP eating carbs (sugars) bit
Interesting article on fatigue, It’s obvious that at some level your brain can over ride your screaming muscles, Otherwise people of the same body weight , strength etc would finish in dead heats all the time.
The dubious part of these studies is that they are probably funded by groups with a direct interest in the results and are looking for any angle to promote their product.
What’s the chances that the study was paid for by lucozade sport or powerade.
If we’re making teams I want to be with Tony and Pixie. It’s got nothing to do with winning workouts, its the class of abuse that’ll come out of our team if we’re all together.
The fatigue one is interesting though I’d like to get a full read of the article. Mental strength has a huge part to play in CrossFit I think. I feel for the most part that the reason people are stopping (why would you stop?) is because it feels bad, not because they’re unable to move any more.
Compare doing Cindy and a 10k run. We’re all capable of running a 10k non-stop but we’re not able to do Cindy unbroken. Cindy causes muscular failure while the 10k just beats you with a big stick. You stop because you feel like you’re going to puke, not because you HAVE to. I think when you can’t do any more you’ll know all about it.
I’m going to have to limit protein now as well as carbs? I don’t think so buddy. This is one piece of science I’m going to choose to ignore.
Meant to post this earlier but anyone know a reasonable plumber? My guy’s away and I’d hate to go down the golden pages route only to be told – Jaysus, that’s a heap of sh*te.
Post here of txt me please.
Hmm, bared teeth, bright red lobster head, yup, that’s me in full swing all right.
See you guys later, stitches be damned.
Is it a boiler problem Colm if so I know a few gas plumbers?
Hey guys,
Haven’t problems posting training ? Anyone else the same ?
Working for me Sue.
Yep I agree with Bobby, there has to be a team douchebag, we always give the best abuse!
Good WOD today really enjoyed it, was glad Stephen was there made me push myself that bit harder.
Hey Sue,
I’m having trouble posting. Getting an SQL error. Been like that since Saturday.
I’m no expert but:
Delete your internet history, cache and cookies and see if that helps.
Also, use Firefox (http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/upgrade.html) or Safari instead of Internet Explorer.
Hope that helps,
Col
Oh, and here’s some good in the world: http://www.zenmoments.org/victim-treats-mugger-right/
Oh god team douche again? I hope cork win.
Tony post the error you are getting and Ill have a gander (i.e. google it and pretend to be SMRT)
Debating with myself at the moment whether I’ll be down later. The filithy fifty and 1RM Clean&Jerks have done me no favours after two weeks off.
I’ll get you a bottle of YBF spray Eamonn.
You’re going to have to explain that one Will. YBF spray?
@Colm
Thats not good in the world. Thats dumb-ass hippies in the world.
Here Chalkie don’t get yourself in a strop just because your abuse doesn’t match up to the Team Douche requirements.
Incidentally I’ve had no problems posting anything and we’re using an archaic version of IE in here.
What’s a Langer?
Thanks guys, I’ll try again. I am getting an sql error.
Was going to head down tonight as the WOD looked good, but between work and Monday’s training I am shattered and a bit sore in my shoulders, so see you tomorrow. Rest day, me think
Look, I’m just an EMT in training but I can tell you that for heart attack patients we put the nitro pill under their tongue and tell them not to chew/swallow because it is actually absorbed faster. Glucose given to diabetic patients is placed between the cheek and gum for the same reason. Is it possible that some of the sugar from the sports drinks swished in the mouth could just maybe have been absorbed?
How does an accountant with 5 weeks of training know this but it never occurred to the researchers? Am I missing something obvious?
Kyle, I thought that was done because the patient may not be in a position to safely swallow the pill? Could be wrong but that’s what I can remember being taught about dealing with diabetics.
I won’t be up tonight, my body is rebelling against exercise. I don’t think I’m fully over my trip to Manchester so I’ll take tonight off and come back tomorrow nice and fresh.
Helzy–I’ve often found its best not to ask such questions. The answer is generally ether really long and really funny to everyone but you, or a frustrating ‘I don’t know, that’s just what everybody says’
Bobby—it turns out that was a question on the last quiz I took. According to our protocols if we suspect the patient can’t safely swallow we can’t give them anything orally, even under the tongue or in the cheek. There’s also a nitro spray and that’s given under the tongue as well because it absorbs into the bloodstream faster. Or so I’ve been told. After all, this is the same book that recommended a high carb low fat diet if the stresses of being an EMT get to you.
Either way I hope the possibility of such an effect was at least considered in the study, otherwise those guys look like eejiots.

RX’d in 14:27…sandbagged on the situps cause i had no competition
Hey Sue,
I got rid of that SQL error by getting rid of quotes ” and !.
Seems to have done the trick. Can post again
Garvan,
Did you mean will as in “trait of resolutely controlling your own behavior” or did you mean Will as in “6th Fittest man in Europe” because if you ment the latter I’m pretty sure OLdtown is part of Co Dublin.
My Culchie/Jackeen status is hotly debated.
North County Dublin is as deep and dark into the countryside in terms of scenery and mentality of the residents as you’ll find anywhere, but this is only appreciated by people from Dublin. Folks from further out just hear “Dublin” and decide you’re from the pale.
The result of this is that I get hate from Dubs for being a culchie, and further hate from culchies for being a Dub.
I’d have misgivings about throwing my hat in with either team, really. I’ll go with the high bidder.
CORK IT IS THEN! WAHEY!
ya i meant William of the Walshes… it’s the way he doesn’t smell like traffic jams, smog or gear…very misleading
Thanks Will, Tom and Colm for the warm welcome at great workout at Crossfit Ireland! It was great to meet you and join in the fun! Good luck and all the best of success!
