Wow just watched that Spealler 106 pull up video, very goddamn impressive, such a modest dude as well, very cool guy!

  2. Will Walshe says:

I’m getting pretty sick and tired of amazingly talented folks being humble about it. These people need to brag more, so I can work up some proper hate and jealousy.

  3. Robbie says:

I signed up for the CF Journal after reading everyone’s comments the other day. I didnt realise there was so much stuff in there. Loads of great articles and videos!! will have a look at the spealer pull up video now!

  4. Robbie says:

Did you notice the buckets in the background after Spealer got 99 pull ups?

  5. Will Walshe says:

    http://games2009.crossfit.com/thegames/individual-competition-teaser.html

“Here’s what we can tell you now about the Individual competition.

Event 1 is a run noticeably longer than last year’s.
Event 2 is a heavy lift in a timed environment.
Event 3 is a run noticeably shorter than last year’s.
Event 4 is something completely different.
    Event 5 is a couplet. ”

Let’s see, Mikko Salo goes on long runs in the forest for fun between WODs, that’s the 7.1km off-trail run in the bag.

He’s a got a 230kg deadlift, Event 2 should suit him. The fellow also ran the 400s in heavy helen faster than most people’s 400 PR, Event 3 down…

    I think there’s a pattern emerging here…

  6. Eamonn says:

    Resistance is futile?

  7. Eamonn says:

I wont’ be down today as I’m idiot and ruined myself with my own programming. Hopefully I can give the CFT a shot tomorrow instead.

  8. Paddy says:

Enjoyed the workout last night wasn’t as nasty as I thought it would be but that’s probably because I was only lifting 10kg. Definitely the most cardio intensive I have experienced up there so far. How many rounds are required on today’s WOD if it’s only one rep each? Do you increase weight on each round?

  9. Colm says:

    Hey Paddy,
If you were doing it, you’d be probably exclusively back squatting today, in 5s, to get your form down. For everyone else, they’ve 3 attempts at a One Rep Max.

About the running as the first event. It looks pretty nasty. My thinking is that the organizers know that most CrossFttters dislike running, and avoid it, so this will cut out a bunch of people who’ve neglected that part of their training. Be interesting to see where Josh Everett lies after this.

For next year, I think it’d be a smart move if they had no running in the CF Games. People will start adding in more hill runs into their workouts now that they’ve seen this.

  10. Colm O'K says:

wasnt mentally prepared for CFT so went about setting a new PB on the press for starters, old PB was 60kg, repped that three times so did 62.5, then 65 then 67.5 then failed at 70. So new PB for the press. Hooray!

then feeling a little better made up a WOD. I went for 21-15-9 90kg squats and pull-ups. Squats shouldn’t have proofed as difficult as they did, pull-ups started well (did the first 21 in two rounds, 13 and 8) and then faded drastically – 11.10 finishing time. Really annoyed with my time, but it’s symptomatic of the week im having.

Bobby – i think you may be right, i had a proper think over the WOD from tues and the difference that 400m might have made is probably big enough, but reality is my pull-ups stank/stink. For the next month i am blitzing OHS and pull-ups

  11. Colm O'K says:

that smilie should be an 8 and “close bracket”

  12. Paddy says:

Cool, cant make it down tonight as my washing machine is kaput & its only under a year old. Will be at a mates using his washing machine cant wait for that! Word of advice dont ever buy Beko products because their cheap!
Colm would I be able to work on form on the back squat if I can make it down tomorrow or saturday?

  13. Bobby says:

I really hope Mikko wins, just for the complete mindf*ck it’ll give Castro et al. Plus it’ll annoy the hell out of all the American rightwing nuts who are involved that some namby pamby european put them to shame. Plus his name is so much cooler than anyone elses.

  14. Eamonn says:

Does anybody else hear the terminator soundtrack in their heads anytime they say or hear someone else say Mikko Salo ? Dun Dun..Dun de Dun :|

  15. Ed says:

I’ll echo the comments re: the games….

    …GO MIKKO!

  16. Pixie says:

I do agree with Eamonn on the Terminator thing, dun dun dun de dun!! :)

  17. Robbie says:

Colm – Why leave out running from the CF games? Because most crossfitters dislike running! Surely that is the exact reason why running should be included!

For example I dont like pullups that much. Mainly because I aint that good at them, but i know they are an important part of crossfit and I just need to keep working at them in order to improve.

I also think the running aspect is just as important. Surely you would be losing out on part of our fitness if we were to leave running out. Train what you are bad at etc etc!!

The Rope Climb demo on crossfit.com is a great video to check out, that is one scary strong lady!

  19. Will Walshe says:

    Robbie –

You’ll notice last years games had a kind of “short and heavy” theme to them, and those kind of workouts have been very much in vogue for the last year in CF-land. I’d be willing to bet we’re going to see an awful lot of people in the CF community training for long off-trail runs over the next year.

Having no running in next years games would just be a fun way to fuck with them.

Pixie – That there is Annie Sakamoto, old-school CF ledge-bag. Other highlights would include:

…not that I ever really noticed her or anything…

  20. Kyle says:

TBH there are no real surprises in the format this year. They did a long run in 07, it was a logistical nightmare so they cut it (and all of the other events) short in 08. Then everyone started training short and heavy, a lot of the guys on Pmenu started looking pretty smart and my guess is that CFHQ realized that the annual test of their functional movements was not as constantly varied as they liked.

My money says event 4 will involve wheelbarrows.

My other prediction is that Khalipa won’t be in the top 5.

  21. Ed says:

details of the second event are up on the games site. *Shudders*

  22. Eamonn says:

Looking good for Mikko. He’s light enough to kill the run and strong enough to get through most of the deadlifts.

  23. Ed says:

Think he listed murph and eva as his favourite woekouts. Sick, sick individual.

  24. Ed says:

    Spelling fail.

  25. Will Walshe says:
