Finished work at 7am. Will try drag my ass out of bed for the 1pm class, otherwise it will be monday before I get down again…. Grrrr bloody shiftwork!!
Both truly epic contributions Pixie!
Although, Batman does rock the most.
This is actaully about fish oils. Currently I’m taking Omega3 pills (one a day) manufactuired by sona. Is this the same or similar stuff to Carlsons fish oils? Which is best? Can I take both or is their a need?
Going to stray off the chosen topic for a bit here.
I’ve signed up for the Great Ireland Run yoke on the 5th April, formally the Bupa run. Now I haven’t run any kind of distance at all in the last 5 months save for whatever running was required in Crossfit and with 2 weeks to the race I was a little concerned about doing distance.
I am shocked at how I’ve taken to the running again! Last night I did 5km in 24.23, easily beating times I used to do when I was running regularly but not crossfiting. coincidence?
The night before I ran 6.3km in 31mins flat (according to mapmyrun.com) and I felt that I could have done a lot more.
I’ve always found the stats crossfit put forward a little difficult, people doing triathlons despite minimal training at running, swimming and cycling etc. but not now I would problem recommending crossfit for this events. We’ll see how it goes on the day but what a fantastic start…
Shane
That Batman video is hilarious!
I want to make a suggestion. Would it be an idea to post the Saturday workout at 6.00pm or 7.00pm on a Friday so people could see what it is since the training is done in the morning.
Is it possible for the workout to load up automatically at this time?
What do you think Colm, also by having it load up at this time (if possible) you wont have people posting into the wrong day at work on Friday.
Will be down tomorrow, had some bug for the last two days but feeling good today. A whole week without crossfit. First time this year.
Thats good to know Shane, Im signing up for a sprint triathlon in May and full one in Aug and am just using crossfit and crossfit endurance putting it to the test, hopefully it will come off
Shane, that’s awesome to hear. I love to say I told you so, so here goes, I told you so!
Jeff, the workout of the day posts go out at 1 minute past minute everyday, including the Saturday ones. If we changed the posts to come out early, the awould be messed up. As for people posting on the wrong day, Saturday’s are usually the quiet days for posting.
In other news, I spectacularly failed my driving test!!! Spectacularly!
I was just thinking about the Saturday workout so that you can check it out on Friday evening instead of Saturday morning which is pointless. If they all have to go in at 1 min after midnight its not going to be a runner.
Jeff is wondering can you put it up early so he can decide on friday night if he should go out throw a load of beer in the direction of his face followed by alot of shouting and general messing…… I gotta admit I like his style
Good work on the test Colm, I dont know many people that have actually failed it so spectacularly……..

Is that your Driving Test result Colm?
I’ve signed up for the Great Ireland Run as well Shane. Hence the switch from SS to CF sooner than planned.
I haven’t run an appreciable distance in years but I’m not worried with only two week’s to go. I reckon two weeks of CF and a run at the weekend and I’ll get through it fine.
I reckon high intensity is the way to go. Anytime I’ve been active I have always gravitated towards intensity over duration, glad to know there’s some science behind it now. I reckon the conditioning you get from just plain old strength training goes a long way as well. CF should cover strength and metabolic conditioning. The only thing you are missing out on if you attempt long duration activities is the lack of adaption your joints have to the pounding they will have to endure. CF does throw in the odd 10k run though which shouldn’t leave you in too bad a state.
Ok, so then this one’s for Big Rachel. With apologies in advance.

Louise: Band pull ups with Green/Pink combined, averaging about 5-8 each set; 12:09
Jeff,
They don’t have to be posted at any particular time, I’ve just decided that they’ll be posted at 00:01.
As for checking the workout on the Saturday, are you going to dodge workouts on Sat or any other day if they’re posted? Really if you are, you’re cutting your fitness short by avoiding the things you don’t like/aren’t good at.
We have a semi-formal policy of giving people strength work if they show up hung over on Saturday.
maybe its delirium from studying but that last sentence made me laugh an awful lot.
Unrelated, but which do you (people of CFIE) think is the more impressive feat:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rXDSPbZ_OUw
or some guy doing a 60″ vertical jump (cant find a link unfortunately)
personally im going with the pool guy
actually, now that i re-read that im not sure it is 60″, but it was very close
I’m doing a mini-Eva tonight at home… 5 rounds of 30 32kg KB swings and 30 strict pull-ups. Will report back in due course.
Ended up scaling this massively.
3 rounds of 30 32kg kb swings, 15 strict pull-ups … 17.36. Damn.
Colm,
hard luck with the driving test, 2nd times a charm. Just remember as bad as you may have thought it went, it could always have gone worse!

Scores from tonight’s metcon (pullup stuff is on the whiteboard, shall edit it in tomorrow):
Team 6pm
Some incompetent idiot dropped the timer around the eight minute, so we’ve no times to report. Suffice to say both guys were pushing it hard, and the idiot in question is sorry once again.

Rory – My primary beef with fish oil capsules is that they’re very prone to going off (forming nasty compounds called lipid peroxides, which you really don’t want to be paying for the privelage of taking). EPA and DHA are both extremely easily oxidised fats, and plastic bottles and gel caps are both permeable to air. You can ameliorate the effects of this somewhat by keeping the caps in the fridge or freezing them. You’ll need to bite into one ever once in a while to check the taste too. If there’s a whack of rotten fish off them, throw the whole bottle out.
Other than that, commonly available fish oil capsules tend to be very low purity compared to a pharmecutical grade oil like carlsons, and they work out much more expensive for the same quantity of EPA and DHA.
Also, not all caps are created equal. Just becase it says 1000mg of fish oil (or whatever) on the box doesn’t mean you’re getting that much EPA and DHA (the good stuff), so you’ll have to check the packet and do a little maths to see what the craic is.
