10 Big Lessons from Little Kids
Time to review February as a training month and set goals for March.
Also, a trip to CrossFit Northern Ireland this weekend. Who’s in?

I’m in!
In college….wammy!
so i had one of the more manly moments of my life yesterday. I was trying on a pair of trousers in town and they wouldnt go over my thighs!
My February was really good, also learned a lesson in eating right. i took 10 days holidays and pretty much drank every night and ate rubbish during the day, when I bothered to eat at all.
The affect on my times/weights in crossfit was dramatic and people i would expect to keep up with were now miles ahead, after just 10 days…
March is back to my regular schedule, zone + 3-4 sessions a week.
February… Hmmm, went ok but had to take a week off due to some invaders and niggles and just messed around with cannonballs and pushups during that time. I’d better go do something with a barbell…
Feb was a success for me mainly. I missed my 25 kipping pullups goal but seeing as I don’t do pullups in SS I’m not too broken up about it.
I did hit a 0.75xBW Strict Press though which I’m happy about, also I’ve squatted 100kg for 3×5 comfortably, along with breaking the 50kg mark for 3×5 pressing. PR for the Bench too. Good month overall.
Goals for this month are an intermediate press, squat and deadlift. Thats 63kg, 123kg and 143kg respectively. I’ll get the Power Clean by end of April and the Bench soon after that I’d say. Also I want a 60kg OHS this month. I don’t think those goals are too big an ask.
Would love to go to crossfit Northern Ireland but I am working as per usual, and I have a car to deliver so no can do
Wait a sec. If you’re going to CFNI this Saturday (I can’t go by the way), does that mean classes are cancelled on Saturday morning?
Yeah I won’t be able to make it to CFNI this Saturday either, am on night shift this weekend Fri, Sat and Sun. *sigh*
I’m probably going to make it to NI, but not 100% definite.
Muay Thai is starting tonight at the gym … Anyone jumping in, apart from me? Come on guys, learn new sports and all that…
I really want to but I will not be committing to it until after the comp in may,
Is that the Thai boxing that Tom was talking about? Might try when the ole exams are finished.
Feburary went resonably well for me at least the first three weeks before I got sick again. I got over having the flu in Janurary and percured an intermediate press and I’m right on the line of an intermediate bench. This is calulating 1rm max from 5rm as I haven’t done 1rm’s yet. I’ll sneak in a CFT + Bench the week after i finish SS to be sure.
As usual with me my lower body strength is lagging behind. I’ve only 2 and half weeks left on SS so I am going to stuff my face for the remaining time for a (very) outside chance of a intermediate deadlift/powerclean and maybe get to within 10kg on squats. My WL’ing shoe’s should arrive either this week or next so they should help out a bit.
I sure am going to miss benching when i switch to CF. I’ll have to get a few sneaky sets in here and there to keep my manliness factor up.
Nice work on the intermediate press Eamonn, it’s a tough lift. What weight are you if you don’t mind me asking?
About 73kg. I was 68kg back in September when I started. I think 3×5 at 50kg just about puts me into intermediate for the press.
Welcome to Brian, who tried out his first CrossFit session with us today
Brian, 15-10-5 40Kg Deadlifts/Box Jumps – 8:31
Louise – 8 rounds, 3 thrusters (7Kg)
Jeff – 7 rounds (10Kg db thrusters, 15Kg db hpc, 40Kg bb sdhp)
Tony, Sue & Rory did some Tucked L-Hangs after the metcon for a bit of fun.
Tony – 12 rounds, 2 thrusters (30Kg); 30,36,35
Sue – 14 rounds, 1 thruster (12Kg); 44,44,30
Rory – 11 rounds, 2 SDHP (40Kg); 24,35,37
That press is even better then, I’ve got a good 7kg on you and I’m only 2.5kg ahead! If it helps at all I find my sets of 3×5 are between 85% and 90% of my 1 rep max. Oh and your oly shoes WILL help. Big style.
February went pretty well. 21 sessions in 28 days, beats the crap out of my 11 in January.
Managed to stay consistent with the 3/1 mainsite schedule, which I don’t think I’ve ever managed for an entire month before. Hit some decent workouts along the way, highlights would inclue a 3:57 Fran, 110kg clean, 110kg split jerk, 195kg deadlifts for easy sets across, 50 rings dips in 2:48 and 14 rounds & 13 pullups on death by chest-to-bar pullups.
Little tired the last two days, so I’ve treated myself to some extra rest days in prepation for my assualt on march.
Thats the one Marianne, be good craic when you’v more free time
