Someone Needs What You Know – CrossFit Watertown

We’re thinking of changing the training schedule and we’d like to know what times would suit you best? At the moment we’re thinking of moving the training times to Monday to Thursdays at 7pm and 8pm, with a view to adding 6pm and 5pm classes if there’s a demand.

Also, would you like a lunchtime class? We could start with Monday, Wednesday & Friday at 1pm and grow it from there.

Judging by popular demand, we’ll open the gym up at 10am on Saturday’s as well from now on.

  1. So I had a free afternoon, as I often do these days, and ventured out to the Utah State Weightlifting Championship. Now I only stuck around for the clean and jerk and only for 40k up to 90k but I have to say that it was not at all what I expected.

I’m going to sound CF elitist here but I’m not exaggerating when I say all of CFI could have entered and made a very respectable showing. For example, nobody, not one of them did a full squat clean. All power cleans. In fact, one participant would catch the clean in a split stance which was new to me.

Maybe it was part of the rules, because they also were dinging lifters that dropped the weight from more than waist height. I don’t know if the stage they were competing on couldn’t handle it or what.

All told it was a fascinating experience especially seeing the difference in technique between folks who clearly had no idea what they were doing and those that were well along in their training. I highly recommend going to the next meet in Ireland.

  2. Thanks T Money. There’s an open meeting in July, I’m planning on entering anyway, for the craic.

Tom, checked with Chet and he’s outta gymbosses at the moment, so it’s time to ebay it up.

  3. Hey Colm,

I know both myself and Rob would love to be able to come down all nights at 7pm. For us, as we get home at a reasonable time in the eve, it’s easier to stay motivated to go training when it’s on at 7pm ;-)

Unfortunately, would very rarely make a lunchtime class.

  4. Agree with Sue,

I am going to start trying to make any 7pm class, it free’s up the evening up a bit if your home a bit after 8

Saturdays are still a non runner but wont be in 5 weeks :)

  5. Eh are the boxes going to be outside…..?? If not this should read
    run 800 metres,
    CLIMB STAIRS ;)
    21 box jumps

  6. Okay, for everyone else they can have their boxes outside. Tom, yours will be up the stairs.

When are you kids going to learn that moaning does you no good at CFI…

  7. I like the sound of lunchtime, 7pm & Sat 10am. Couldn’t commit to definite attendance at lunch time but should be able to get a couple in per week (maybe!)

  8. Either 7 or 8pm is fine for me. For the next month or two i’ll only be able to go on Thursday evenings, so i would be interested in a lunchtime class.

  9. I’m up for lunchtime classes, because some days I work at 2. But I’d need to be gone at 1:30 to make it to work… Not a big deal, if 1 works for Louise and Deirdre then I could always just let myself in a bit earlier.

Evening classes I’m not bothered about the time so much… 7 or 8 is fine either way.

  10. I just realised that I finally achieved my first “Advanced Athlete” Skill last saturday. The athletic skill levels are a set of CF standards put out by CrossFit Seattle.

    http://www.crossfitseattle.com/athletic_skill.html

They’re a bit hit and miss (45 x 1/2 BW Thrusters anyone?), but overall they’re a good indication of your progress. Anywho, I’ve had them pinned to the wall in my bedroom for 2 years now and I’ve been highlighting all the things I’ve accomplished. It’s funny, when I first saw them I thought I’d never get to level 2 standard in anything but today I realised I’d already hit level 3! Success!

  11. Nice work Bobby.

Hmmm, slow enough night up at the old gymnasium, reckon we had ourselves some run-dodgers.

Ruairi – 14:17 as rx’d, 5-5-5 of Power Cleans @ 70Kg. I noticed his hips aren’t opening fully on that, just noting it for future work

    Louise – 15:42 (400m/15 16″ box jumps)
    Paul – 15:13 as rx’d
    Scott – DNF
    Sue – 18:12 as rx’d
    Rob – 18:47 as rx’d

    Rory – 15:17 as rx’d
    Me – 14:58 as rx’d

  12. Cheers for that link Bobby, that’s a really interesting read, I hadn’t come across those before I must admit. They provide a good basis for what to aim for and in what areas you can see yourself falling down in, pull ups, running and gymnastics for me.
