Hmm… Interestin’ looking metcon.
Was looking at the leaderboard. I actually did a Fran in (I think) 8 something… But I can’t find the day. It was the day that dude came down and beat Will’s Fran time.
Wait, why can’t I access the leader board?
Link fixed Kyle.
I can also see why you kept asking for a leader board, you score in the top one or two for every single event. I guess it’s just no good knowing you’re the best, everyone else has to know as well.
I’m sure there’s some errors/omissions in the leader board alright. I also managed to delete the presses table, so hopefully I’ll get that done today as well.
I am still confused by the no weight categories in crossfit’s approach, but that said with such a broad range of work and skills it kinda makes sense,
Pressups are gonna hurt later on tonight I bet, and running 2km, thats ridiculous
Would anyone have an interest in competing in a triathlon in the summer, some tabata running and squatting may be enough to get some decent times up as long as you know that you can comfortably complete the distances,
I would be talking about a sprint which is:
750 mtr swim,
20 km cycle,
5 km run
I know Deirdre is thinking about doing one, could be a good experiment as to how crossfit theory translates to practical terms in this multi-sport
Tom,
I’d be up for a triathlon in theory, as long as it’s not in the Liffey. This is now your project.
As regards competing in sports, I’d like a Team CF Ireland to enter a couple of things this year, just for fun. The indoor rowing champs are in December, which gives us plenty of time to work on our 2K distance. There’s a couple of road races we all could enter, and Robbie has got people signed up for rock climbing as well.
And for fun, who’d be up for Go-Karting sometime soon?
As for the no weight categories, there was a lot of debate around this during the last game, with the heavy guys claiming it was biased to the light people, and the light people claiming it was biased to the heavy guys.
Technically speaking, heavy loads will favour the heavier athletes, whereas bodyweight stuff will favour the lighter guy.
Ok well triathy is the fastest, (read flattest) one in Ireland, and rowing would appeal to me, I mean its cardio and will give me the Kyle broadness……
I will look up which triathlons are more friendly etc, greystones is a charity one and good fun. These do fill up fast though,
I would be keen to do one of these but the banter of a few people doing it and a bit of competition will definitely make it more enjoyable,
An aquathon could be a easier idea, no need to get a bike for those, anyone with any ideas please let me know. Triathlone is also massive, but a preference from people that are interested in a:
Swim and a run,
Swim, bike and run
Wow, I thought you guys were slightly exagerating about how wide my hands were. I’ll have to work on the handstand.
Wrist is a bit sore from from 87.5 FAIL last night. It just caught my fingers on the way down.
I’m probably going to do a 100 mile cycle on the May Bank Holiday Weekend. Its to Dunshaughlin in Meath and back so its on the flat. Just need to get a few weekend cycles in to do it.
You’re going to do a 100mile cycle the weekend before the Deathmatch? You crazy fool!
I think you should do the cycle Jeff. This recommendation has nothing to do with the 20 euro I have on Tom whatsoever.
I’d definitely be up for go-karting, haven’t done that in years.
Tom – I’d be interested in a triathlon but I’d be worried about my swimming, its not the best to say the least. Maybe later in the year, sometime in July maybe?
Here is a link for the Triathlon Ireland calender for the year
http://www.triathlonireland-server.com/Events/EventCalendar
I would be interested in doing one, but im a brutal swimmer. Well actually I can barely manage a length!! Working on it.
I did a few of these Duathlons last year. They take part in a closed circuit in the phoenix park and the distances are short, so you wont need to put loads of mileage in. Think there are 3 or 4 over the summer months.

For anyone like Jeff intersted in the long distance cycling check this out.
http://www.wicklow200.ie/
So I just looked up that GI Jane from last year, Paul HAMMERED my time on that (17:01 – http://crossfit.ie/2008/02/02/february-2nd-2/)
I knew there was something very suspicious about the sound of me doing that thing in 14 minutes.
I’d be interested more in a dualathon as I love cycling than a triathlon, as I am a terrible swimmer. I did volunteer to marshal at one of the triathalons last year to see what bikes everyone was using and if I needed a good bike and all the clothes etc, but I never got the call in the end to marshal
Jeff………
Do not do that cycle IF you are going to then say it impeded your times in the competition,
The swim part of it is very doable, get in a pool. Swim nice and slow and see how many lengths you can do, then keep upping the distance until you can do the distance plus some, swimming in the sea is very different,
I think we should do a triathlon as everyone is saying that they are terrible at swimming
I am a brutal swimmer, but I know that its not nearly as bad as it sounds
I remember reading some of Eugene Allen’s posts about triathlon training on the CF forums, apparently one of the best ways to train for a tri swim is to put about 10 guys in the same lane of a pool and have them all try to swim in a pack…
This is thought to prepare you for all the splashing, shouting and people trying to swim around, under and over you at the start.
So the guys at CF endurance claim that you can train for any LSD event with just crossfit plus 2-3 of their wod’s per week. In fact not just train but seriously compete. I’m very curious if that’s true. Any takers?
BTW just took a look at the leader board and now understand why I’m 1 or 2 on each one–where’s Will? And FWIW I’m 100% sure I got 18 rounds on my last Cindy. Who said men will die for points?
As to the weight categories, I’ve been going over some of the older CFJ’s and getting back to the idea of CF as GPP, which of course does not care about weight, energy level, injury, how much sleep you got last night, etc.
I asked Will about that one day actually Kyle, his response was:
“The board would then be a list of things Will can do”
Yep, I figured I’d stay off the leaderboard until there was stuff on there that I couldn’t beat, otherwise it just becomes the “look at how great Will is” board, which would just be lame in the extreme.
Oh and Colm, I’d like a category for “Successful Armbars on Colm”. Its only fair that people know.
Fair enough, but isn’t part of the fun of having a leader board being number two and knowing how far you are from number one? Maybe (hopefully) seeing that gap slowly close over time? Even if there is no way I could ever catch your Fran time I could take some sense of accomplishment when going from 200% of your time to 150%. Just a thought.
BTW there are some true fire-breathers at CF 801 as well. Honestly it feels good and challenging to be toward the bottom of the pack again and I look forward to slowly climbing the ladder. Hopefully.
I remember Eamonn was interested in lifting shoes the other day, I’m just after ordering a pair of Adidas Ironworks III
http://www.holdall.co.uk/product/24199/0/adidas_ironwork_iii_weightlifting_shoe
They cost £100GBP including delivery to Ireland so they’re somewhat cheaper than pullum sports. They’re on special offer though, whenever that runs out they’ll be the same price as pullum sports.
Delivery to Ireland from Holdall.co.uk is £10GBP so its not too bad, especially considering how the sterling is worth about as much as monopoly money these days.
They look nice, Bobby. Might have to pick me up a pair as well.
Good session tonight. We did fall outs/negatives of the Back Lever to begin, then the metcon was a nice lungburner
Damien – 18:28
Pixie – 22:27
Rob – 22:55 (honestly does not know how many rounds)
Robbie – 17:35
Shane 1.0 – 14:52
Sue – 18:20
Tony & Tom did 5 rep back squats:
Tony: 40Kg, 3 sets (working up from 20Kg)
Tom: 60Kg, 5 sets
Yeah they look pretty slick alright. Once I get them I’m going for 1RM in the OHS, 40kg is a bit low these days.
I ordered the shoes from rogue fitness that I gave the link to a few days ago. Hope they fit.
I plan on stamping the floor really loudly during powercleans and annoying everyone when i get them.
Curious there Eamonn, what was the total cost of the shoes including delivery?
Crap, meant to include this in my last post, if anyone else is interested in Weightlifting Shoes there’s a good thread over on the CrossFit Forum on it:
http://board.crossfit.com/showthread.php?t=31814&highlight=weightlifting+shoes&page=2 (wfs)
I’ll write a review on the difference between runners and WL shoes for Starting Strength once I get them if anyone’s interested.
As much as I wish I was anywhere near that time, I actually did 19.52 tonight
I would be interested Bobby,
I will buy a pair of cons over the weekend if I cant find anything flat enough, am I right in saying that they just need to be flat and not Nike Shox
Quiet John loves his Nike Shox
I did single rep front squats last night, got 90kg comfortably enough but then jumped to 100kg and failed that twice in a row.
Re: the footwear discussion, I did them barefoot. Worked quite well… Although it was bloody cold!
Tom, what you’re aiming for is an incompressible heel. WL shoes usually use wood for the heel, which in turn is slightly elevated to allow for deeper squatting.
Some seriously heavy squats have been done in cons, a good few videos I’ve seen on YouTube have guys wearing them.
