Quiet today.
So diet, supplements, what is fitness…
carbs are great . . .
oh, also invented my own WOD last Tues. Did BW deadlifts (75kg) and box jumps 21-15-9 for time of 6.56
Has anyone seen the current Nutella ad doing the rounds? i mentioned this yesterday but for some reason I need to rant a bit more about it!
Images of Mom making breakfast for the kids, the voiceover says:
“We all want our kids to have a balanced breakfast with something like toast. But there’s so much to choose from; what do we put on it? Nutella.”
What chance to the uneducated masses have with ads like that? Turns out they got in trouble last year after making false nutritional claims in another ad. Won’t someone think of the children etc.
Replaced the running with 20 box jumps a round, cause the gym was busy and i didn’t want to lose the squatting rack. 30kg OHS, all in 13:30. And I think an honourable 2nd in the “worst shoes for lifting” category goes to those MBT deals, given they have a slope on the heel so if you were squatting you’d just roll off them onto the ground.
Meh only got a chance to reply to Kyle’s statement about Peer-reviewed science now, bloody college.
Anywho.
“But it seems like you are saying that asking for PubMed reviewed literature a waste of time for anyone other than someone with a knowledge of the subject area in detail. In which case Pubmed seems to only be useful for bolstering a particular bias.”
I’m not sure what you mean by bias? Maybe it came out wrong but what I’m trying to say is that only a person with background knowledge of the subject (doesn’t need to be extensive) and a good knowledge of experimental science can determine if a study has been well performed or not. You can design studies to “prove” most points. The fact is under scrutiny that they fall down due to strange inferences or bad methodology.
Simply quoting these studies is pointless in trying to convince an ordinary person. That person cannot tell whether the study is good or bad. To be honest I don’t really know what I’m trying to say here apart from that peer-reviewed literature isn’t all its cracked up to be but at the same time it is?
I’ll reiterate though that I find it very odd that no conclusive study exists on the matter. A matter that we all know is very simple, diets like the zone DO work yet there is no evidence to suggest they do. Apart from the obvious amounts of anecdotal evidence, myself included. Maybe Sears and his associates don’t want it going mainstream? Can’t sell books on something the Government gives away for free I guess. Or is that too cynical altogether?
