Personally I couldn't care less whether the peer reviewed research was there to back it up or not. I know I feel better eating Zone (though I'm thoroughly off the wagon these days, damn exams).

What I find interesting is that none exists. Its idle curiosity on my part really, I've read countless testimonials about Zone but I've yet to see a study nail it down.

Oh and that WOD will be awful. Anything with a set of 100 squats in it hurts me.

Just on the whole studies thing: I'm not sure even had one-existed that I would have knuckled down and adopted the Zone more quickly than I did. I already accepted based on what I'd seen in the gym and what I knew was happening among other affiliates and within CrossFit that this was the way I should be eating. The crunch point was actually going strict for a while and forming the habit, confirming for myself that I could stay eating this way.

Whatever is written about the Zone, I think it's the couple of weeks that someone can take to test it for themselves that's really significant. If someone isn't willing to do this at the moment, but would if there was a peer-reviewed study that said they should, then I guess that's good... But how many people does that describe? Probably not many.

I'm back from NY, extremely jetlagged and whatnot. Will be down at the gym tomorrow night to drag my de-zoned holiday ass through whatever the WOD is.

I'm not around for the FBG fundraiser or the christmas party either, I'm afraid :( ... In scotland with my crew from work for our weekend away.

Take a gander at the archives of Mike Eades blog under for posts he tagged in the "bogus studies" categroy: http://www.proteinpower.com/drmike/category/bogus-studies/

There's some fantastic examples of peer reviewed nutrition research in there. Turns out the process is only useful if your peers are not complete twits.

Don't get me started on peer reviewed research......

Nah I'm off the board today, I spent two hours this morning getting slated by my project supervisor on my background knowledge (his expectations change every time I talk to him conveniently enough) so I'm 'busy'. Kind of. No fiery debates today I'm afraid.

Oh and I won't be able to make the FGB fundraiser I'm afraid, I have two of my finals that day. A saturday. Two of them. On a saturday. I love UCD

Sure, Ames has done up sponsorship cards (which I forgot to bring into work to copy) that we'll ask people to sponsor us to do this workout. Big Shane is tryiing to bring a few friends of Stuart down for this as well, so we'll have a few run throughs of the workout.

Oh, and for anyone not getting the acronym, it's Fight Gone Bad.

Make sense?

Hey all,

Reminder about December 13th - our FGB fundraiser in aid of the Stuart Mangan Appeal (www.stuartmangan.org)

I'm thinking we kick things off at 11 or 12, and have that night as our CF Ireland Christmas Party. Speaking of which, should we book dinner or just head out?
