Jez and Mark over from CrossFit Swansea for the week. We’ve helped them get Stronger, and hopefully Funnier, so there’s only one more attribute left to work on. Anyone who wants to join us for a tipple we’ll be meeting Saturday night in the Porterhouse on Nassau Street at 9pm.

So Will has recommended a great fish oil brand and an excellent magnesium supplement, is there any general consensus on what a good multivitamin is, I work for Wyeth Biotech and so can obviously get Centrum pretty cheap, is there a better one out there?
I reccomend vegetables. Lots of vegetables.
But then again, I can’t spell recommend, so what do I know.
Nasty girls eh! Looks pretty nasty! Can the muscle ups be substituted for the seated progression version Kyle was showing me the other night?
cue tumbleweed rolling!!
I’m a fan of chewing food.
Apart from anything else, it’s an intregal part of the digestive process – stimulates the productive of stomach acid and digestive enzymes (which most people don’t produce enough of in the first place due to stress/elevated cortisol).
I’m not goign to come out and say that you don’t absorb nutrients from drinking vegetable juice, just that you probably don’t abosrb them optimally.
EDIT: On reflection, I guess you “chew” each mouthful of juice for a while to try and fool the system. How smart can a stomach and pancreas be?
I’m a fan of jucing stuff but there’s a pitfall if you’re using fruits careful not to end up with something absolutely loaded with carbs. Using a whole banana and adding more stuff like apple juice, blueberries or whatever may taste great but by the end of it you’ve ended up with something that from a zone perspective might contain five or six carb blocks.
(It’s kind of funny that smoothies from the likes of Zumo are marketed as a ‘health’ food, resulting in a situation where people trying to eat right and possibly lose weight have a ‘healthy’ smoothie for lunch instead of a can of coke, along with whatever else they’re eating (maybe a ‘healthy’ bagel sandwich). They might be better off with the coke, in that the smoothie contains a second meal’s worth of carbs. Not quite as bad as the way in which muffins have become considered a breakfast food by some, but still…)
Like I said, I do like them sometimes but I add in protein powder and nuts relative to the amount of fruit / veg I’m using … And try and keep it to 2 or 3 blocks.
Can’t say I do any really hardcore vegetable juicing … Not sure juiced broccolli is more edible than steamed broccolli.
And Robbie- I’d hazard a guess that most people (me included) will do jumping muscle-ups or some equivalent.
Robbie,
Was out for the day today, so not connected to the internet for any substantial period of time, but yes, seated/jumping Muscle Ups are preferred to pull up/dips for that whole CNS/technique training thing, so I’ll be getting people to do this tonight.
Oh and Helzy just called me. Jeff Tucker Gymnastic’s Cert in CFNI next August!!!!
Shane – I DO chow down on raw brocoli, celery and carrots pretty much every day. I eat a salad with these and a bunch of other stuff for lunch, tis roughly the size of my head
I suspect this is the primary reason why vitamin supplements have no notciable effect on me.
Ames – 14:16 (Jumping MU, 15Kg HPC)
Deirdre – 13:41 (25 Squats/Seated MU x5, 7Kg HPC)
Ruairi – 14:58 (Jumping thru transition)
Big Shane – 14:45 (Jumping thru transition, dropped to 50Kg HPC for rounds 2 & 3)
