  1. Excellent photo, reminds me of everynight at CF!!!

Lookin forward to making the trip to the mighty Dub :)

  2. The 1:53 Fran was compulsory viewing for sure. On the form thing, I guess ultimately the seal of approval is that it is up there on the mainsite as the new record.

I’m still sick, ended up throwing in the towel and going back to Donegal for a few days. I kept doing strength days through the week so far, most recently front squats and pull-up bleep test on Tuesday. I’ve deliberately avoided a metcon, but I wonder if even the strength days has stopped me kicking this cold more quickly?

A few years ago when I was running intermediate distances 5 or 6 days a week I used to keep running even if I had something, until I realised I just wouldn’t get rid of whatever it was until I took a few days off.

  3. I thought it was just me who thought that it looked like it was played in fast forward.

Fair play to him, he’s done it faster than I ever will but I just don’t like the use of the med ball. Its purely an aesthetic thing I think but why are the two fastest times I’ve seen (Speal and this guy, Kaplan) both done using a med ball? I can’t remember his name but there is a canadian guy who posted a ridiculous time a while back without a med ball.

Does the med ball help? I don’t know, I’ve never used one so I can’t comment but I can’t help but think that he uses it for a reason. Perhaps a performance enhancing one? Not to knock the guy, I’d bet my house than he can knock out fran without a med ball faster than I ever will.

  4. Last night’s Fran times were not good, I went to the 8 class and we all scaled to 30KG.My time was I think was 13.50, Dan has the times.
In the 9 class Kyle missed his PB (7.48) by 1 second 7.49 so that was pretty good going.
I have learnt that no matter how much you look at a weight it does not get any lighter and you tend to wait to get your breath back which does not happen. Then after wasting 2 minutes standing around you realise this and just pick up the weights again or hop back on that bar to try to get another few thrusters or pull ups.
I feel I could have gone heavier and got around the same time as the thrusters did not seem to tax me enough but Kyle pointed out that my form faded during each round.

  5. Bobby–I haven’t watched the video yet but I’d venture a guess that a med ball will be used in any such videos as proof/guage of adequate squat depth.

Big Shane–I only know my own time and only because it was 1 second slower than last time. 1 second!. Surely I could have picked up the bar at least 2 seconds sooner after one of my rest breaks and set a new PR. Ah well…

I’m still wrecked from Fran yesterday and realized that if Will is sick, Ruairi is sick, and Scott and Big Shane and half the people at my work, I might just be fighting something myself.

Personally I’ve tried laying off and not laying of when sick and haven’t found a significant difference but it’s impossible to prove, so I’m undecided if I’ll take a break or not.

Ruairi–how far did you get on the bleep test?

  6. Bah, I’m grand now. Being sick is for ladymen.

Bobby – Medballs can be used for performance enhancement if you absolutely cannonball onto them and use the bounce to help bring you back up, but the guy in the vid wasn’t doing that. As Kyle says, they’re just depth gauges.

  7. Kyle-

11 rounds of good chest to the bar, the 12th round had some of my old-school mixed-group squint-and-pull-your-chin-over-just-about pull-ups towards the end so I elected not to count it. In the 13th I got about two pull-ups and then a load of failures.

  8. Fran Times

    9 p.m.

    The Kyle 7.49

    Dan B 7.00 (jp 20)

    Team 8p.m.

    jeff 21.46 (35 kg)

Thanks to The Kyle for taking care of CrossFit Ireland while I was away. The Kyle is the oak that shelters us, the rock on which our house is built, the jam in our jelly roll.
