  1. All-

I’ve heard back from the Bushcraft instructor about orgnaising a course.

Basically what we need to go ahead is a minimum of 5 people. He is willing to do it in Wicklow for 100 euro a head, if we supply our own food. Date yet to be settled upon.

So if you guys are interested then we just need to get an idea of numbers and agree on a weekend that will suit.

There’s a list up on the whiteboard in the gym, you can sign up there or chime in here. We’ll sort out deposits later on.

Let’s hope the rain stays off whenever we do it!

  2. I’ve seen that Bigger, Stronger, Faster documentary actually, it’s well worth a watch, tis interesting.

  3. Greetings from the US of A. I didn’t get a chance to post on the HG discussion the other day but would like to add one idea and maybe solicit thoughts on it. I haven’t done any research at all on HG’s so my knowledge is based solely on what I’ve read through fitness sites but it seems like, while there may be averages of behaviour/diet, modern day HG’s show VAST differences as well.

So Cordain did his research based on data from as many observed HG tribes as possible and came up with his recommendations on that. But there are extreme outliers that subsist on very high carb diets or almost constant LSD running and don’t seem to fall prey to the ‘diseases of society’.

The point to me is well summed by Will’s post. This stuff is fascinating no doubt and I love theorizing about it as much as Big Shane, but in the end you have to take the ideas that make sense try them out and keep what works empirically for you. This is the Black Box method (known to the rest of the world as trial and error) which I still have significant issues with, but haven’t found a better solution yet.

The movie looks interesting but I just don’t get America’s crack down on steroid use. Is this really the best use of taxpayer money? How do you explain to the cancer/leukaemia/anaemia patient’s families that $X million of the US budget that might have gone to research is instead fighting steroid use? Sorry, one of my big hot topics.

I’ve also got a much longer informercial post that I’ve got to write. Maybe tonight or tomorrow morning. This country just cracks me up.

  4. Shane, I’m guessing this is where ‘quartering’ game comes from- dividing it up to spread the load.
