Ruairi Heavy Snatch

A tight midline (Core) is essential to supporting weight overhead, particularly when it moves at such velocity as it does in the Snatch

  1. Bet poor Dan is going to be suffering until new skin grows in, let alone new callouses!

  2. Farmer’s walk nice!!! A specific forearm exercise things are looking up:):) Great for the “Traps” too.. I assume it’s 20kgs per arm??

  3. Liam,

You assume correctly, yet nothing works in isolation.

    “The Walk of Shame”
Ruairi – 17:51 (with seeming ease)
    Colm – 20:03 (couldn’t break the 20 barrier!)
Kyle – 23:31 (Damnit, I didn’t want to be the first one to drop!)
Dan – 33:18 (Finishing with less skin than ever!)

Then, for shits and giggles, we did a pull up bleep test
    Ruairi – 8 rounds, 8 pull ups
    Colm – 11 rounds, 4 pull ups
    Kyle 13 rounds flat

  4. Don’t worry Dan, skin is over-rated. My right hand has been doing fine with barely any for weeks.

Did the HQ workout today, snatched 75kg on the final attempt. With 20% of the year gone thats 94% of the way towards my 2008 goal of snatching bodyweight. Guess I should be aiming higher…

  5. the hand will heal in time. If it doesnt kill me it will make me stronger.

  6. Pull up bleep test?? How many pull ups between bleeps are you aiming for??

Any idea when you will be hosting your next open day Colm??

  7. Were you guys using 20kg dumbells for the farmers walk or plates?? Plates excellent for your pinch grip!! Dumbells great for the overall grip!

  8. The pull up bleep test is the name we give a CrossFit workout whereby you start the clock, and on the first minute you do one pull up, the second minute, 2 pull ups, etc etc until you can’t complete the number of the pull ups in the given round (minute). It starts off nice and slow, then gets hectic as you approach failure.

We were using grip plates, Kyle was using dumbbells. As a bizarre curiosity my quads are sore from that workout!

Prob host an open day in April.

  9. Colm,

Ah I see 11 rounds for you Colm thats excellent for a guy who aint fond of doing em that’s 66 in 11 mins!! Thats great going!! Yes the quads do take a pounding when doing farmers walk they take on the role of stabilising you somewhat, there is a tendancy to break into a gallop!!

Open day looking forward to that..
